Another Endeavour

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Work At Home Ideas Newsletter. I hope that your last two weeks have been eventful, fun and productive.

I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was starting on a new endeavour. I have started building a new site using Ken Evoy’s great program called Site Build It! Basically, it is a complete site building package and is meant for newbies who don’t know how to build a site.

I have heard SO much about it that I thought I would give it a shot to see what all of the hype was about. Well, Ken’s 600 page manual not only delivers the goods about building an effective and great site, but it totally over delivers!

I have spent just one week working on my new site and already I have completed my home page and five inner pages. And this is just in my spare time! I am not using any html coding, just following what his program outlines.

I will continue to keep you all up to date with my progress to let you know how it goes. I am always encouraging home business entrepreneurs to build their own site and if Ken’s Site Build It can make the process easier than it is well worth it.

If you are curious, or interested, you can get more information here: Site Build It!

Paid Advertising, Part 2

In the last newsletter I discussed the ins and outs of a great paid advertising source, the pay per click search engines. At pay per click search engines you can control how much you are willing to pay for each and every customer to your site, or product page.

In addition to pay per click search engines there are a few other quality ways you can advertise your site or product, often for mere pennies per visitor. Even though you can advertise your business effectively free of cost, it will require much more work than if you could spend even just a few dollars.

The form of paid advertising I want to discuss this newsletter is that of Ezine advertising. If done properly, ezine, or newsletter advertising is an excellent way to get your site or product in front of thousands of targeted customers for just a few dollars!

Ezine Advertising

There are literally hundreds of thousands of ezines or newsletters online. I myself am subscribed to about 5 or 6 high quality newsletters, and yes, I do read every one! They are not only a great source of information, but quite often give me great ideas for running my business that I had not thought of before.

Now, before you go surfing off to an ezine directory and buy up all of the advertising just because I said it was “good”, there are several ground rules that will make your experience a good one and not a disappointing one.

As with any business, you need to get your products or services in front of the right people. Why? Well, imagine trying to sell dolls to a bunch of football players. Sure, one of the football players may have a daughter who likes dolls, but it’s likely you will not get a very good response.

Best to target your product to those people who are interested in finding out more about it in the first place! That way you are more likely to make a sale or close a deal. This is extremely important: Find ezines that cater to an audience who would be interested in your products. If you do this, your chances for success have gone Way up.

There are several places online that list ezine and newsletter publications in a directory. This makes it easy for you to search for ezines that target your product or service. Here are a few that I would recommend:

Ezine Directory
Ezine Universe
Free Ezine Web

Types Of Ezine Advertising:

So, you’ve gone to the directories and have located a dozen newsletter subscriptions that are related to your product or service, good!

Now that you’ve done that, just sit tight for a minute. I need to discuss with you the four main types of advertising within most ezines. Below I will discuss the pros and cons with each so that you can make an informed decision as to which is best for you to proceed with.

These are just guidelines of course, as each newsletter will have their own unique way of displaying ads. However, most ezines publish these types of ads:

Classifieds

Classified ads are the “babies” of ezine advertising. They are typically the cheapest of all ads in an ezine. Why? Because classified ads usually appear at the end of the subscription and not near the top.

As well, classified ads are usually grouped with 5 other ads, sometimes up to 20! Most ezine publishers will allow your classified ad to be 2 to 3 lines long with 65 cpl (characters per line).

Sure, they may be cheaper, but it is known that the average ezine reader will not even get that far down the ezine. And if they do, they may just skin over the classifieds anyways!

If you are on a small budget then placing classifieds in newsletters may be the right thing for you to do.

Middle Ads

Middle ads are one step up from regular classified ads. They tend to be a little more expensive and here is the reason why.

Middle ads are usually shown right in the middle of the newsletter, thus the name, middle ad. So, why is this better? Well, as mentioned before, ezine readers will quite likely make it half way down the subscription, but not any further. So, the chance of your ad even being seen is much higher!

Another benefit of paying a little bit more money with middle ads is that the publisher usually allows your ad to be a little bit longer than a classified ad. So, instead of your ad just being 2 or 3 lines, you may be allowed to have 5 lines or so.

Top Ads

Seeing a pattern here? I thought so! Yes, you guessed it, top ads appear near the top of the subscription. The chances of your top ad being seen by the average subscriber is quite good.

That is why top ads cost even more than middle ads and classifieds. Typically, top ads are about double the cost of middle ads, and triple the cost of common classifieds. However, because more eyes will actually see your ad I feel that it is worthwhile paying for a top ad if you can afford to do so.

Ezine publishers usually allow the ad to be longer if you purchase a top ad. So, in addition to it being near the top of the ezine, you will be able to give the readers more tantalizing information about your products or services thus you are more likely to make a sale or close the deal.

And last, but not least…

Solo Ads

Solo ads are the “king” of ezine advertising. The name solo ad is pretty self explanatory. A solo ad is stand alone. This means that the publisher will email your ad, and just your ad to his/her whole subscription base.

If subscribers open this email it is you and you alone that have their attention. Sure, solo ads are a LOT more pricey than an ad that appears in a typical publication, but you pay to be the only one in front of their faces.

You no longer have to compete with the other advertisers for the readers attention. Solo ads are a great way to get exposure Fast. If you can afford to purchase a few solo ads then I would highly recommend it.

As an important aside note. Before you purchase any ad from any ezine publisher, it is wise to subscribe to that ezine first. Why? You want to make sure that the ezine is of high quality, not just rehashed junk.

If you target ezines that have high quality information, it is very likely that the ezine itself is high quality. These are the ezines that you as an advertiser want to advertise in!

My general rule of thumb when advertising in ezines is this: I don’t pay more than $1 per 1000 subscribers for classified ads. No more than $2 per 1000 subscribers for middle ads. No more than $3 per 1000 subscribers for top ads and no more than $5 per 1000 subscribers for solo ads.

Of course these are just guidelines and it totally depends on how targeted and the quality of the ezine as to how much you are willing to pay.

So, give it a try! Ezine advertising is very effective and I would recommend it highly.

MARKETING TIP OF THE WEEK:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Participate In Forums

Forums are wonderful places to go to if you are keen on learning your trade. Even though many forums do not allow direct advertising, many do allow you to add your bio at the end of each of your messages.

Your bio usually consists of your name, url and/or email address. By participating in the discussion you are building yourself up as a trusted expert in the field.

Don’t underestimate this type of marketing strategy. Not only do you get people visiting your site, but people are more likely to take your advice or purchase from you because they trust you and recognize you as an expert.

Fr*e FTP Programs

This fr*e resource is great for those who are thinking of building a brand new website. Essentially, FTP stands for “File Transfer Protocol”. An FTP program automatically sends your completed web files to your web server.

This free software alone saves you hours of having to cut and copy all of your html files, physically go to your server file manager and having to input files manually.

There are several free FTP programs on the internet. They aren’t complicated once you get the hang of them! Here are a few that I know work well:

Smart FTP
